Camp Hayden Polar Bear Update

A couple of years ago, I posted an image of a Polar Bear Patch from Camp Hayden. It was in pretty rough shape, but I can now share a mint example.

Rockland County Council worked out an agreement to operate Camp Hayden (the last year as a GNYC Camp was 1974) and leased the camp from Greater New York for use as a summer camp. This lasted until the mid-1980′s.

Can anyone confirm the years this patch was used?

  1. I went to Camp Hayden in the early 80’s and this patch was used for a few years in a row, at least the years that I was there ( 81 – 83). There is no year printed on the patch itself is because the years were a separate patch in the shape of a 1/4 circle that went around the outside of the patch that you have pictured here. I just returned from Camp Turrell with my son and was trying to find out what happen to camp Hayden and saw your post and recognized that polar patch right away. Brought back some good memories. Thanks!
