Filed under pre-1960 NYS Camps, Uncategorized

According to Bill Cotter’s Wauwepex History: Camp Wauwepex opened in 1921 in Miller Place, then moved to the present location the next year. It has faithfully served campers from Nassau County ever since. As might be expected of a camp that old, it is steeped in Scouting tradition and history. Wauwepex served the Scouts of [...]

Camp Seneca was part of the Sullivan Trail Council. In 1990 Sullivan Trail Council merged with Steuben Area Council to form Five Rivers Council. This type of patch is referred to as a woven and was popular in the late 1950′s but has since fallen out of favor at least in the US Scouting World. [...]

I recently acquired a 1953 Staff Neckerchief from  Ten Mile river’s Camp Kunatah. There is also a staff patch issued for this year. The staff patch is still a need of mine. As far as I know, this is the only time there was both a patch and a neckerchief issued by a TMR camp [...]

Filed under Ten Mile River pre-1965

I’d previously written about a 1956 TMR Headquarters Staff Patch. These issues have been seen with dates from at least the mid-1950′s to the mid 1960′s. This particular patch was listed in the 1st Edition of A Guide to Memorabilia of the Ten Mile River Scout Camps as belonging to Headquarters Staff. The information on [...]

Woodworth Lake Scout Reservation 1950′s cut edge

by @ Sunday, November 20th, 2011. Filed under pre-1960 NYS Camps

During this era, Woodworth Lake Scout Reservation was part of Sir William Johnson Council. The patch pictured below, had rockers for each year a Scout attended Camp. Several rockers could be fit in the notch at the bottom of the patch. I’ve seen rockers from the 1956-1958 time frame. Can anyone confirm the years of [...]

A couple of years ago, I posted an image of a Polar Bear Patch from Camp Hayden. It was in pretty rough shape, but I can now share a mint example. Rockland County Council worked out an agreement to operate Camp Hayden (the last year as a GNYC Camp was 1974) and leased the camp [...]
