{"id":358,"date":"2009-12-18T14:35:20","date_gmt":"2009-12-18T19:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tenmilerivertrader.com\/blog\/?p=358"},"modified":"2009-12-18T14:35:20","modified_gmt":"2009-12-18T19:35:20","slug":"camp-pouch-on-the-block","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.tenmilerivertrader.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/18\/camp-pouch-on-the-block\/","title":{"rendered":"Camp Pouch on the block?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a bit late to this story, but I wanted to post it for those who may not have heard about it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Citing financial turmoil, the Boy Scouts of America is exploring the full or partial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silive.com\/westshore\/index.ssf\/2009\/11\/citing_financial_difficulties.html\" target=\"_self\">sale of Pouch Camp<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bsa-gnyc.org\/openrosters\/DocDownload.asp?orgkey=1161&amp;id=68828\" target=\"_self\">GNYC press release<\/a> goes on to state&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>with ongoing efforts to secure a conservation easement the preferred arrangement for Scouts and the community. The camp is one of only two key assets that can be strategically<br \/>\nleveraged to ensure the Council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s financial stability, as necessitated by steep declines in corporate and community funding amid rising operational and outreach costs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So while a conservation easement would be the ideal (Where NYC or NYS pays the Scouts to keep the land undeveloped) there is no guarantee that this would be the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silive.com\/westshore\/index.ssf\/2009\/12\/hundreds_gathering_for_rally_t.html\" target=\"_self\">rally to save Camp Pouch<\/a> on December 12:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In an attempt to prevent a beloved piece of Island history from falling into the clutches of private developers, approximately 1,500 Scouts and supporters of William H. Pouch Scout Camp braved the cold yesterday evening to rally against the potential sale of the Sea View site.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A FaceBook page has also been created to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=185218397286\" target=\"_self\">Save Camp Pouch<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a bit late to this story, but I wanted to post it for those who may not have heard about it.
