A recent acquisition from the Western New York Traders Association TOR a couple of weeks ago was one of their local camp patches. In 1949, Erie County Council (ECC) merged with Buffalo […]

Here is an example of a Staff neckerchief from a time when scouts camped at Ten Mile River by borough. As you might imagine, Camp Manhattan was for scouts from that borough and was located on Crystal Lake. The area which comprised Camp Manhattan was later divided into Camp Rondack and Camp Keowa. This Neckerchief […]

According to Mike Hulsizer’s Camp Ti-Wa-Ya-Ee History, The camp became the property of the Erie County Council (ECC) in 1928. However, records suggest it likely operated as Camp Ti-Wa-Ya-Ee beginning in 1925. Camp Ti-Wa-Ya-Ee is a Seneca Indian word meaning “trustworthy-loyal”. At that time it was probably used by the BSA but open to other […]

According to Bill Cotter’s Wauwepex History: Camp Wauwepex opened in 1921 in Miller Place, then moved to the present location the next year. It has faithfully served campers from Nassau County ever since. As might be expected of a camp that old, it is steeped in Scouting tradition and history. Wauwepex served the Scouts of […]
