Thanks to the keen eyes of Ray Gould, I was able to pick up a TMR Staff neckerchief need recently at the Empire State TOR. Below is the 1956 Camp Rondack staff neckerchief. While it is on a neckerchief, I’m not sure if this is the original tartan for this camp.  Can anyone confirm this? [...]

1961 Chappegat Staff Neckerchief

by @ Tuesday, June 9th, 2009. Filed under Camp Chappegat, Ten Mile River pre-1965

After the era of individual Camp Staff neckerchiefs, there were several years where uniform staff neckerchiefs were worn throughout the reservation. In 1960 there was Green and Blue Tartan, in 1961 the same patch was used bit the Tartan was Gray and Green. The patches show a map of TMR broken down into the three [...]

Ten Mile River 1956 Headquarters Staff?

by @ Sunday, May 31st, 2009. Filed under Ten Mile River pre-1965

Douglas Chin provides a scan of a generic 1956 Camp Staff Patch.  These issues have been seen with dates from at least the mid-1950′s to the mid 190′s.  This particular patch was listed in the 1st Edition of  A Guide to Memorabilia of the Ten Mile River Scout Camps  as belonging to Headquarters Staff. The [...]

by @ Sunday, February 8th, 2009. Filed under Ten Mile River pre-1965

Below is an image of a Camp Brooklyn Honor Troop Pennant from 1948.  Camp Brooklyn was located at the western end of Ten Mile River, and was made up of what eventually became Camp Chappegat, Camp Kunatah, Camp Kothoke, Camp Ihpetonga, Davis Lake and Camp Hayden. I know a similar pennant exists for Camp Man [...]

Here is another video from the Ten Mile River Scout Museum, this one on the history of Camp Man 1930-1938. Camp Man was the Camp for Queens Council and was located on Crytsal Lake.  Modern Camp Kernochan uses much of the land of what was Camp Man. Share on Facebook

TMR Scout Orange – Red Vertical Variety

by @ Thursday, July 5th, 2007. Filed under Ten Mile River pre-1965

In a previous posting on the history of the TMR Scout, I wrote that most of the two color patches had a horizontal separation between the color arcs.  Larry Strauss provides an image of the Red/Orange Twill Cloth Patch with a vertical separation. Does anyone else have other varieties?   Share on Facebook

Ten Mile River Scout Variation

by @ Sunday, March 4th, 2007. Filed under Ten Mile River pre-1965

I recently added a page on the History of the TMR Scout program.  This article originally appeared in the Ten Mile River Scout Museum Newsletter Smoke Signals .  In it, I described that most two color bordered TMR Scout patches had 2 180° arcs that ran horizontally. There were variations to the standard.  Here is one [...]
